Very few artists can paint a Kandinsky with as much skill and precision as Mae Shults. You can argue with me till you’re blue on the face, but you’re better off acquiescing now, because I’m right. The pure talent with which she breaks apart the trappings of black metal, doom metal, and sludge metal, grinds them into dust, and then transforms them into something unlike anything you’ve ever heard before is otherworldly. I’m in awe. Plus, you get the bonus song “epicene,” a Bandcamp exclusive. Kirk Gauthier
Jordan Vauvert
The Indonesian act Kekal leaves no genre unturned, colliding black metal with industrial music with melodic post-rock on this stunning LP. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 25, 2023
she somehow manages to get slam, jazz, pop, breakbeat, electronica, and tech death on the same track. literally how? and that’s not even getting into the album’s 11-minute centrepiece. if you like adventurous metal at all, you need this album in your collection *yesterday* – there’s nothing else like it out there. cassandraleo
